vs St Johns

The 94s got back to winning ways in a competitive match at Dalgety Bay, with Ally Brown and Darren Campbell netting doubles.

The first midweek match of 2009 was on a beautiful spring evening at Dalgety Bay, as the Norries entertained St Johns.  After a series of narrow losses, the Norries were determined to get their season back on track.

The early stages were evenly balanced, but it was the Norries who were carrying the greater goal threat.  After 15 minutes, a long throw from Chris Campbell put DARREN CAMPBELL in behind the visitor's defence, and his angled shot looped over the 'keeper and into the net.  The Norries then dominated the rest of the period but whilst they created several chances and had a Chis Campbell 'goal' chalked off, the score remained at 1-0.

The second period continued in a similar fashion, but the Norries began to sit back on their lead and allowed the visitors several forays into their penalty box.  Even so, the Norries were creating the best of the chances.  Lewis Smith fired wide before a snapshot by Mo Dow crashed off the crossbar and seemed to bounce over the line.  The referee decided it was no goal and the lead remained at just a single goal at the end of the period.

As the final period started, the Norries were looking to build on their advantage.  Several close things were passed up before DARREN CAMPBELL shot through a crowded goalmouth for the second.  As the game opened out, the Norries were starting to win more free kicks and corners, and from a Darren Campbell corner,  ALLY BROWN rose above the defence to head home for 3-0.  The pressure was now growing and when the visiting 'keeper spilled a Darren Campbell cross, ALLY BROWN volleyed home the loose ball to make it four.

As the game entered its last five minutes, St John's were still pushing for a reward for their efforts and after Ally Moore saved in a one-on-one situation, the ball broke kindly for the visitors to make it 4-1.  Even then, the Norries managed to finish on a high note.  A low driven corner by Darren Campbell was met by CHRIS CAMPBELL, who fired home their fifth goal of the evening.

It had been a competitive match, with St Johns playing their part, but in the end the 94s made a deserved and overdue return to winning ways.
