Match Report
Sun March 29th
vs Rosyth Colts
It was one of those days, as a short-handed Norries squad failed to peg back Rosyth in an entertaining game at windswept Blacklaw Road.
The fates seemed to be lined up against the Norries even before kick-off when 'keeper Ally Moore had to call off sick, and an already short-handed squad was reduced to the bare 11 players. Centre back Connor Young picked up the goalie gloves for the day and produced an excellent stand-in performance.
The match was a very even affair, with both sides enjoying periods of pressure. Defences were on top throughout, with chances at a premium. After a goal-less first period, Rosyth took advantage of wind-assistance early in the second, when a cross-shot from wide on the left whipped inside the near post for 1-0.
The fates continued to plague the Norries when full-back Euan Munro injured his ankle and had to leave the field. Now down to 10 men before the half way mark, the lads still managed to battle their way back into the game. A quick throw from Jack Matson played CAMMY ROBERTSON in on goal and although his initial shot was blocked, he followed up to make it 1-1.
The game was again finely balance and when Rosyth made a break down the left, the Norries thought that Ally Brown had been fouled. But the referee waved play on, and almost immediately, a Rosyth attacker went down inside the box and a penalty was awarded. The spot kick was well despatched and the Norries had the mountain to climb again.
Even a man short, the Norries took the game to Rosyth in the final period. With five minutes left, a perfectly weighted pass from Conor Durie found Cammy Robertson behind the defence. His excellent control and cushioned lob went over the keeper but also the bar, and the Norries were left to reflect on another brave performance against a good side, but another narrow defeat.
