vs Jeanfield Swifts
The season starts well for the 94s, as a Jack Hynd hat-trick lights up a dreich day in Lochgelly.
The rain clouds were gathering as the 94s prepared to kick off their 2008-09 league campaign, with a home game against league newcomers, Jeanfield Swifts. And it was the visitors who started brightest, putting the Norries backline under pressure and closing down well in midfield. After ten minutes, the Norries had a close escape. Good play on the right led to a scramble inside the six yard box, and as the visiting attck tried to knock the ball home, the ball was cleared off the line twice.
Midway through the first period, the Norries picked up their game and were asking questions of the Jeanfield defence. Conor Durie and Darren Campbell went close before JACK HYND picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box and fired a left-foot thunderbolt high into the net.
Into the second period and the Norries began to get on top in the midfield battle. Chris Gordon and Graeme Cowan were threading passes into the channels and when Darren Campbell got clear on the right, his low cross was turned in at the back post by JACK HYND. The Norries had now taken control of midfield and another nicely weighted pass released DARREN CAMPBELL, who passed the ball into the corner of the net.
In the final period, Jeanfield pushed forward looking to retrieve the game. This was leaving space at the back and when a break down the right created a chance for Conor Durie, his shot was saved by the 'keeper and fell for JACK HYND, who knocked the ball into the empty net. Five minutes from time and the Norries again beat the offside line. LIAM KINCH timed his run perfectly from halfway, drew the 'keeper and placed the ball into the net.
This was an excellent match played in difficult conditions. Jeanfield did not deserve such a heavy defeat and competed well throughout the match. The Norries played solidly after a sluggish start and had spells where they started to show the type of football that they are capable of. Both teams will undoubtedly improve as they get a few competitive games under their belts.
