vs Glenrothes Strollers

An excellent performance by a leg-weary squad takes the league season to a climax against Leven on Sunday.  Ally Brown nets a double as the Norries guarantee themselves second place, at least.

Just 24 hours after a tough test against Kennoway, the Norries took on Glenrothes at Gilvenbank and put on an assured performance, dominating the match from the start.  The first period was played largely in the Strollers' half, with Conor Durie, Jack Hynd and Darren Campbell pressuring the home defence into some desperate clearances.  And the pressure told after 15 minutes, when a corner by Ryan Campbell was flicked on by Chris Gordon and ALLY BROWN was on hand to fire the ball into the roof of the net.

The second period followed the same pattern, with most of the play in and around the Strollers' box.  A long throw-in from Darren Campbell was missed by the home defence and ALLY BROWN knocked the ball home from close range to make it 2-0.  The Norries looked set to push on and record a comfortable win, but when the ball struck Chris Campbell on the arm, a penalty was awarded and Glenrothes got back in the game.

But this was a night when the Norries would not be denied.  Early in the third period, relentless pressure created an opening for DARREN CAMPBELL at the edge of the box, and he weaved past two defenders and hammered the ball home.  Leg-weary they may have been, but the Norries finished the match on top, and when a cross from the right flashed across goal, JACK HYND pounced to slide the ball under the 'keeper and make the final scoreline 4-1.

This was a much better performance than 24 hours earlier.  Whilst many of the players were out on their feet by the end, it had been a fantastic effort with some excellent  football from start to finish.
