vs Kennoway
A scrappy affair on a blustery night is decided by a late Darren Campbell goal.
The first midweek fixture of the 'summer' got off to a slow start, as both sides struggled to cope with a bumpy pitch and blustery wind. Chances were few and far between and neither goalkeeper was tested in the first twenty minutes. Towards the end of the first period, a speculative cross by RYAN CAMPBELL was caught by the wind and ended in the back of the net. A suitably bizarre goal which ended an uninspiring period.
The second period continued in a similar fashion. Most of the play was in midfield and both sides were struggling to make passes on the uneven pitch. Kennoway were holding their own in midfield and won a series of corners, none of which caused any problems for the Norries defence. Eventually though, the home side got their slice of luck. A corner to the back post was missed by all. When Euan Munro made the clearance, it cannoned off a Kennoway forward and looped high into the net. Another freak goal and now it looked like being 'one of those nights'.
Into the final period and the Norries had more control, but without any flowing football. A series of corners ended with DARREN CAMPBELL poking home from five yards in a goalmouth scramble. It was a goal symptomatic of a scrappy game.
The game continued in the same style for the final 15 minutes, with the Norries withstanding a late push by Kennoway as the match entered injury time. It had been a struggle throughout and the result was more satisfying than the performance. Kennoway is always a difficult place to visit and the Norries were just glad to come out on top.
