Sun March 2nd
vs Cupar Colts
A whirlwind start sets the 94s up for a hard-earned win up at Cupar.
A beautiful sunny day saw the 94s with a full squad available for the first time this season, facing a Cupar side aiming to follow up after a good win over Kennoway. The Norries started at a very high tempo, immediately putting pressure on the Cupar defence. Quick passing and good movement was creating space for the new front-pairing of Conor Durie and Darren Campbell. After just five minutes, a quick combination gave CONOR DURIE a clear look at goal and he fired the ball home.
The Norries were now in total control and getting behind the Cupar defence on both flanks. Another quick passing move made a chance for DARREN CAMPBELL and he beat the home 'keeper from eight yards. The Norries were now on top of their game and another break saw Conor Durie's shot saved by the keeper, only for JACK HYND to follow up and make it 3-0, after just 15 minutes.
Five minutes later it was four. Good play down the right saw Ryan Campbell fire in a cross which was met ten yards out on the volley by DARREN CAMPBELL, and the ball flew into the corner of the net.
Coach Harry Fleming shuffled his team after the first period, but the Norries still had the upper hand. A long ball through the middle played CONOR DURIE through on goal and he stretched to poke the ball home from the edge of the box. The Norries were still on top, but the rolling substitutions had caused them to lose their shape and Cupar were beginning to make their way back into the game.
In the final period, the Norries began to rest on their laurels. Some slack marking allowed the Cupar striker to break into the box and as he prepared to shoot, a tackle from Ally Brown brought him down. The penalty was awarded and fired high past Ally Moore. Cupar had got a foothold in the game.
The Norries restored their advantage within five minutes. Another break through the centre of the Cupar defence gave Cammy Robertson a chance and when his shot was blocked, CONNER HUTCHISON met it on the volley to make it 6-1. And the Norries were still pushing for more goals. When they over-committed at a corner, Cupar broke quickly down the park and bundled home their second goal.
Still, the Norries were determined to have the last word. Calum Reilly and Darren Campbell worked a series of one-twos on the left side of the Cupar box. Darren crossed to the back post, to find CAMMY ROBERTSON unmarked and he headed into the empty net.
This was an excellent performance by the Norries, especially in the first half. They also responded well when Cupar upped their game in the last 20 minutes. It had been a fine day's work against a very useful home side.
