vs Kelty Marian Colts
After a long break from action, the Norries got back into the swing with a workmanlike 4-0 win over Kelty Marian.
In the first period, the Norries showed the effects of the long break as they struggled to get any fluency in their game. They dominated possession but failed to bring the Kelty keeper into serious action.
After a few well-judged words from coach John Watson, ther second period saw a bit more urgency and when Conor Durie fired the ball across goal, CAMMY ROBERTSON slid in at the far post to make it 1-0. With the deadlock broken, the Norries pushed forward and when Conor Durie was felled in the area, thre was no question about the penalty. Conor took the kick himself but dragged it wide of the right hand post.
The second goal was not too long in coming. Just 30 seconds later, CONOR DURIE fastened on to a loose ball, burst through the centre of the defence and hit a firm shot into the corner of the net. The Norries were now in complete control, several chances went begging and Conor Durie hit an excellent drive which came back off the cross bar.
The final period started in a similar pattern and when Darren Campbell raced in along the bye-line his shot was saved by yhe Kelty keeper and a goalmouth melee ensued around the loose ball. Several shots were blocked before CONOR DURIE blasted the ball home from five yards out. As the game petered out, the Norries continued to make chances and the Kelty keeper made several excellent saves. Eventually, with five minutes to go, LIAM KINCH was played in behind the Kelty defence and placed the ball into the net for 4-0.
Whilst in the end this was a comfortable win, the long break without a game showed in a lack of sharpness and Kelty looked dangerous on the break. Now the winter cobwebs should be blown away and we hope to get an unbroken run of games to make up some of the backlog.
