Haarlam Cup 2006

Another magnificent effort from the squad this year. In temperatures over 30C every day the matches were well contested each day.

Easy wins on day 1 and 2, scoring 20 goals and conceding only 2 in four matches saw us easily through to the Group A finals. A tough first match against D.C.G. produced a 3- 2 win but the heat sapping temperatures took its toll when we came up against The Barca Boys in our second match of the day. A real team effort in even higher temperatures could not contain the eventual tournament winners and we went down 2 -1. Throughout the tournament the Barca Boys scored 72 goals and conceded only the 1, against The Norries.

What would prove to be our last day in the Haarlem Cup got off to a bad start. Needing 2 wins from 2 matches to stand any chance of getting to the finals we lost 4 -2 against Amsterdam Boys in a match that was ours for the taking. With spirits at an all time low, knowing that a final place was now out of reach all the players have to be commended for summoning up the energy and enthusiasm to play our last match. This time against r.k.k.v. DEM we managed a superb 3 - 1 win to ensure that we left Holland on a high.
