NMBF Aims
The Norrie McCathie Benevolent Fund is a registered charity formed in 1997 and based in Dunfermline. Along with support and help given to other charitable organisations within the local community, the main thrust of the Funds activities lie in the funding and day to day running of the Norrie McCathie Development Squads - football teams for children between the ages of 5 and 17.
The fund identifies local children with potential and then helps enhance and realise that potential through the coaching structure of the development squads.
The squads train weekly, working to develop both individual ball skills and teamwork, and play competitive matches throughout the spring, summer and autumn - weather and facilities permitting - within the SFA Soccer 7s framework.
The Scottish Soccer Sevens Development Association was launched in May 1996 to promote the small-sided game for young people under the age of 12. The ethos of the programme is to involve children in non-competitive 7 a side matches on small pitches with the emphasis on skills development in a low pressure, fun environment.
Through the contacts and reputations of the NMDS coaches, competitive matches are also organised on an informal basis with similar age group teams throughout the UK, including representatives from many SPL and Scottish League clubs.
